#2 – American Royalty<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The silence in the LTD had stretched too long for Starsky\u2019s liking. Sometimes, quiet was good, in the right and infrequent circumstances, but that was rare for the chatterbox from Brooklyn.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo, you still mad at me, babe?\u201d he finally ventured with trepidation and sweetness.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hutch nailed him with a look that proclaimed, This is your fault.<\/em> \u201cYou just had to open that big trap of yours. I wanted to be on the detail guarding the president, but, no, you had to tell that Secret Service agent that you couldn\u2019t wait to meet King Peanut.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a joke, Hutch. Is it my fault feds don\u2019t have a sense of humor?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo, it isn\u2019t, but it is<\/em> your fault that we\u2019re out watching for god-knows-what on the edge of our jurisdiction. Hell, I even cleaned out the car just in case we got to work that detail.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Starsky stole a quick look at the back seat; he couldn\u2019t tell much of a difference, except for maybe there was cleaner garbage. And the addition of a bicycle tire pump.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019ll be back and by then, the Secret Service\u2019ll have forgotten all about it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Hutch snorted lightly. \u201cI don\u2019t think Dobey will have. He\u2019s got the memory of an elephant.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd body to go with it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Dual snickers followed that comment before another long silence ensued, and the car seemed to fill with Starsky\u2019s pout and Hutch\u2019s disappointment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hutch\u2019s sigh, which had a hint of a chuckle in it, disrupted the quiet. \u201c\u2018King Peanut.\u2019 Good one, Starsk.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

They looked at each other, both faces masking what was so close to revealing itself.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYeah?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYeah.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Like a whale breaching the ocean\u2019s surface, raucous laughter erupted from both men.<\/span><\/p>\n
