June 4th- Red Letters by Bay City Girl

A Missing Scene from The Plague

I’ve been on the cleaning crew in this hospital for years. This job is my family. I’ve met some nice people and heard some sad stories. But it’s all part of life.

I do my job and try to stay in the background. But I see all kinds of things.

It was all over the hospital about the section given over to the people who had the plague.

Lots of sick people getting sicker.

In order to control who comes on the ward, I’m the only cleaning person assigned. I try not to listen but the lady doctor doesn’t sound too sure they’ll find a cure in time.

June 3rd- Definitions of Magic by DPPatricks

This story is the result of the Me_and_Thee 100’s Challenge #363 – Magic. I wrote five drabbles for the prompt but this one decided it needed to be considerably longer than 100 words.

“The Magic Castle! Can you believe it, Starsky?” I don’t normally get effusive about such things, but I was feeling pretty darned pleased about the evening we’d just spent. “We’ve finally been to the Magic Castle!” I led the way up the stairs at Venice Place, leaving his Torino parked behind my car on the street.

“Yeah. All it took was you nearly gettin’ killed!” His tone was sullen and it surprised me. “

I dug the key out of my pocket and opened the door. Ushering him inside, I bestowed my most innocent, ingratiating smile on him. “But I didn’t!” He shuffled past me and I closed the door before continuing. “You got the girl safely out to Dobey and the uniforms, and brought the cavalry back in time to round up all the kidnappers.”

“Barely in time.” Clearly, he was not going to give up his less-than-cheerful mood easily. “Don’t ever ask me to do that again, Hutch, ‘cause I won’t.” He turned away from me. “Next time, you take the kid and go for help!”

June 2nd- Icarus by Spencer

The sheets smelled of Chanel and despair. The first rays of the sun had dripped through the blinds like melted butter and now lay on the floor in a little pool. It wasn’t like Ken to sleep in so late but he’d had a difficult night, to put it mildly.

Vanessa slipped out of bed and into the T-shirt he’d left on the chair. It covered her to mid-thigh. Most men would have found her exposed legs seductive. An erotic work of art.

She came around to his side of the bed. “I’m leaving,” she told the long form stretched beneath the covers, not checking to see if he was awake.

He was. He blinked open his eyes and reached out to trace a finger gently down her thigh. He so often communicated tactilely. “When will you be back?” he asked as if he didn’t know what her answer would be.

She willed herself to be immune to his touch. “I won’t,” she said without rancor or heat, although she doubted anyone would begrudge her the right to either.

June 20th- Tendency To Jam Part 3 by mvernet

Starsky wondered if Hutch was trying to remember the Sunday night conversation that changed both their lives. Part of him wanted Hutch to remember. But another part was convinced he should leave the force and let Hutch find a new partner that deserved him. That part hoped Hutch would never remember. Leaving his partner after almost killing him Starsky could face. But leaving the man who had freely given him his heart was too much to bear.

“Yeah. It’s just memories trying to resurface, I guess,” Hutch said. “Doc told me I shouldn’t push it. But I got this strange feeling that I’m missing something important.” Hutch looked down at Starsky kneeling at his feet like a loyal knight before a king. He ran a hand over his brown curls.

Starsky closed his eyes.

“This has been hard on you, Starsk. Hasn’t it? You’ve been a rock for me. Putting up with my cantankerous ways and my constant whining. Thank you, buddy. Come up here.”
