A heart full of love – broken in death
A guitar full of music – broken in madness
A life so full – broken in sickness
A young girl’s innocence – broken by evil
A friendship so strong – broken in strife
A child’s trust – broken by anger
A life so full – broken by bullets
A circle of pain, hurt and hate caused by all of this –
Broken by friendship and love.
I can’t do emojis here but I’m imagining the ‘Wow’ face. :-O This is magnificent! It’s so different and so powerful. The last line seems so obvious but I wasn’t expecting it at all. It makes perfect sense though. Their friendship and love will heal them and they can continue to heal the misery of those who suffer. It’s just beautiful. <3
FYI, if you’re on a Windows machine, press the Win key and the dot (period) and it will bring up the emojis.
Whoa. Never knew that. Thanks, Lauren!
Beautiful, acmabry. Like a hymn or a prayer. Thank you.
Lovely. So powerful. Thank you.
Beautiful poem. I especially loved the last two lines. Wow!
Very evocative and powerful, acmabry. With all the pain and misery I wasn’t sure where you were going with it, but you captured the beauty and lasting cure for all the suffering with the last two lines. Lovely gift, thank you!
Wow, Arlene! Really intense. Beautiful. Thank you.
Well done with this. I didn’t know what to expect but it made perfect sense. Thank you!
Beautiful.
Thank you.
Very nice! Beautiful!
Beautiful and I liked trying to figure out which episodes/characters each line was referring to. This is my interpretation:
A heart full of love – broken in death = Gillian and Terry
A guitar full of music – broken in madness = Fatal Charm
A life so full – broken in sickness = made me think of mental illness such as Commander Jim in Lady Blue or Tommy Marlowe in Vendetta, or could also be physical illness such as Jake Donner in the Plague (or even Hutch in the Plague)
A young girl’s innocence – broken by evil = Molly in Little Girl Lost
A friendship so strong – broken in strife = Starsky vs Hutch
A child’s trust – broken by anger = The Crying Child
A life so full – broken by bullets = Jackson Walters in Manchild on the Streets ?
A circle of pain, hurt and hate caused by all of this –
Broken by friendship and love.
— I love this last part. I’ve often thought about how much misery the guys encounter in their jobs, where they come across so many people who are marginalized by society, disenfranchised, and misfortunate, and how Starsky & Hutch, who have so much love for each other, also have empathy for those they encounter, and are able to show their love to those people whom they come across in their job, and bring a little bit of light into their lives. And also because of all the misery they encounter every day, they wouldn’t be able to survive without going crazy (like Commander Jim) or being depressed, or feeling hopeless, if it wasn’t for the love and friendship they have for each other.
Anyway, I guess you could say that I found your poem to be really poignant and inspiring.
Wow, this was very moving just the thoughts behind the words. ❤
I really appreciate how you turn around the formula at the end. It’s easy to have negative association with the word “broken”, but as you point out in your poem, bad things can be broken by good things, too. Very ncie!
Breaking a vicious circle of sadness brings about healing–lovely. Thanks so much, great work 🙂
