June 4th- Bay City Colors by Lapfordlass

If I could paint a picture, at the center there’d be two
Surrounded by the sights and sounds of that Bay City view.

I’d paint a picture filled with greens: soft grass and leaves on trees,
Plants that fill up Venice Place grown with care, providing peace.

I’d daub the canvas with deep blue: the indigo of Starsky’s eyes –
Flashing with anger; filled with joy or shining with love that never dies.

My brush would find those golden gleams: sparkling gold of Hutch’s hair;
Bestowing, with his twinkling smile, drops of light everywhere.

A stroke of candy apple red would make a wheeled courageous steed
Carrying two brave modern knights towards those places where there’s need.

With purple, I would paint the coat that clothes a friend called Huggy Bear.
I’d catch his speech in silver tones that convey his love for that special pair.

I’d dip my brush in choc’late brown to paint teddy bear soft eyes:
Dobey’s love for his adopted sons conveyed in liquid pools, so wise.

Over the canvas, I’d weave a spell, combining colors as they wend
That makes a scene from my mind’s eye of love and friendship without end.

But I cannot paint so I must use the colors of words to paint this scene
To try to describe the Bay City boys and everything they’ve come to mean.

Oh, this is spectacular! The title is perfect. The colors you’ve assigned to men, car, and greenery are indeed their colors. It’s clear that the Bay City boys – all 4 of them – mean a lot to you. Such a lovely poem. <3

  2. Kira says:

What a lovely First Gift to all of us, Lapfordlass. Welcome! I can’t write poetry but I love to read it. And this one is very special, painting vivid word pictures of the two we love most. Well done and Thanks!

  5. Lapfordlass says:

Thanks. I’ve just recently got into writing poetry so some are better than others but I enjoyed this one and think it works.

    This is very beautiful.
I love bright, vivid colours and for me the 70s was a very colourful time. So when I think about Starsky and Hutch I always see them alive and full of life, full of colours. Your poem is wonderful.

omg I looove this! I adore poetry and this one is so beautiful and expressive.

I thought this stanza was especially brilliant:

A stroke of candy apple red would make a wheeled courageous steed
Carrying two brave modern knights towards those places where there’s need.

And this one brought tears to my eyes:

I’d dip my brush in choc’late brown to paint teddy bear soft eyes:
Dobey’s love for his adopted sons conveyed in liquid pools, so wise

They will always be his “boys.” He may yell at them a lot, but it’s because he loves them so much, and he really is a big, soft teddy bear. Aww.

Thank you for your kind comments. Glad you liked the stanza about Dobey – love his gruff exterior and soft heart!

Lapfordlass, this was beautiful and so original. The pictures you painted in my head were lovely and poetic and true to character. The rhythm of your words was remarkable. If this is even just a small indication of your talent with words, I can’t wait for more from you! Thanks for sharing, and welcome to the “society” of S&H writers.

  12. Donna says:

Aww this was just beautiful! Perfectly captured all four of our Bay City boys! Thank you for sharing this lovely poem ❤️

  13. Garrideb (Monica M) says:

Lovely! The structure of using colors for each character is really fun, and I like that you included Venice Place and the Torino as characters. I read the poem out loud and the cadence really works well.

    My favorite stanza was:

A stroke of candy apple red would make a wheeled courageous steed
Carrying two brave modern knights towards those places where there’s need.

    • Lapfordlass says:

Thank you Garrideb! Yes, it definitely works best read aloud.
Couldn’t create a scene without the Torino and Venice Place! 🙂

  14. Mortmere says:

A beautiful first gift – I hope there’ll be many more in the future. This poem evokes so many images, and I can hear the Torino roar with delight being called a “wheeled courageous steed”. 🙂 I notice that stanza has become a favorite here, for a reason!

    • Lapfordlass says:

      Thank you. More to come!
Yes, it’s funny that that stanza is becoming a favourite. You just never know what’s going to talk to people.

Thank you for sharing your talent. You painted with words…for some reason I could hear Cat Stevens singing your poetry.

  19. acmabry says:

Oh, I do love how you’ve created a painting of colors with our words. And how you’ve included everything from Hutch’s apartment to Dobey. You’ve truly touched on all things special to us fans concerning the show. And, totally captured the color and essence of the Starsky, Hutch, Huggy and Dobey. This is so very good! :-)!
